Sodium Hyaluronate Can Be Used in General Foods

On January 7, three novel food ingredients, fruiting body of Isaria cicadae Miq.(artificially cultured), sodium hyaluronate, and Lactobacillus kefiranofaciens subsp. kefiranofaciens, were approved.

In 2008, Sodium Hyaluronate was approved as a novel food ingredient used in health food. This time, its scope of use is extended to milk and dairy products, beverages, alcohol, cocoa products, chocolate and chocolate products (including chocolate with cocoa butter alternatives and its products), candy and frozen beverages. It is not suitable for infants and young children, pregnant women and lactating women. The unsuitable group should be indicated on the labels and instructions, and the recommended consumption 200 mg/day should be indicated.
