A few days ago, we shared some knowledge about imported prepackaged food labels. This week, we will share some basic contents on imported prepackaged food labels for your reference.

I. Complete Items

Food name

Ingredients list (raw materials and auxiliary materials)

Net content (specification)

Name, address and contact way of importer/distributor/agent

Production date

Shelf life (except for exempted foods)

Storage conditions

Country/place of origin

Nutrition label (except for exempt foods)

II. Key Points

01 Food Name

Reflect the real nature of food.

Use the names specified in the standard.

The production method can be indicated.

02 Ingredients list

With guide word "ingredients" or "ingredients list" ("raw materials" or "raw and auxiliary materials" can be used for vinegar, wine, soy sauce, etc.).

Listed in descending order of added amount (addition amount less than 2% may not be listed in descending order).

03 Net content

Presented on the same display panel as the food name.

The three elements of net content, number and legal measurement unit should be complete and accurate.

The minimum font size of net content should meet the requirements of standards.

04 Information on importer/distributor/agent

Name, address and contact way legally registered in China.

At least include one of the contact ways such as telephone, fax, e-mail, postal address, network methods, and postal address (postal code or mailbox number) indicated with the address.

05 Production date and shelf life

Mark in the order of "Year/Month/Day", if not marked in this order, the actual marking order should be indicated.

Where the date is indicated by making reference to a specific place of the package, this specific place of the package shall be indicated.

06 Storage conditions

It is recommended to mark the guide words "storage conditions", "reserving conditions" and "storage methods".

Mark according to the actual storage conditions of the food, such as "store at room temperature, refrigerate after opening".

07 Country/pace of origin

It refers to the name of the country or region where the food becomes the final product, including that of the packaging (or filling) country or region.

08 Nutrition Label

Include nutrition information, nutrition claims and nutrient function claims.

Nutrition information includes header, mandatory indication of energy, protein, fat, carbohydrate, sodium and their NRV%.

Foods exempted nutrition label

Raw and fresh food, such as packaged raw meat, raw fish, raw vegetables and fruits and poultry eggs;

Beverage alcohol with ethanol content 0.5%;

Foods with a total surface area of 100 cm2 or a maximum surface area of 20 cm2;

Ready-made and ready-to-sell food;

Packaged drinking water;

Prepackaged foods with daily consumption 10g or 10mL;

Prepackaged foods that may not be marked with nutrition labels as required by other laws, regulations and standards.

III. Other Mandatory Labeling Items

01 Irradiated food:

The label of a food which has been treated with ionizing radiation should be marked "irradiated food" in close proximity to the name of the food.

Any ingredient which has been irradiated should be indicated in the ingredients list.

02 Genetically modified food:

Declare according to the actual goods.

The relevant labeling should comply with the relevant laws and regulations.

IV. Recommended Labeling Items

01 Consumption method:

According to the need of the product, helpful instructions for consumers can be marked such as the opening method of the container, usage method, cooking method and rehydration method.

02 Sensitizers:

For foods and their products that may cause allergic reactions, it is better to use the name that can be identified easily in the ingredients list, or give notes at the adjacent position in the ingredients list.
