On November 8, the State Council joint prevention and control mechanism against COVID-19 issued the Work Plan for Preventive and Comprehensive Disinfection of Imported Cold-Chain Food (hereinafter referred to as Plan), which requires that, in accordance with the logistics characteristics of imported cold-chain food, after the completion of the novel coronavirus tests and sampling work as required, the preventive and comprehensive disinfection of imported cold-chain food should be carried out before the first contact of imported cold-chain food with people in China at the port inspection, transportation, unpacking and warehousing, wholesale and retail stages, respectively. The Plan emphasizes multiple authorities perform their duties and cooperate with each other, with the aim of minimizing importation risk of COVID-19 through imported cold-chain food, and ensuring safety of cold-chain food, while improving customs clearance efficiency and maintaining the stability of industrial chain and supply chain. In addition, importing enterprises should truthfully declare information on imported product, cooperate with all production and business units to implement disinfection work, and keep records of the sale and flow of imported cold-chain food.
