On June 22, 2022, the Chinese Nutrition Society issued the Notice on Collecting Technical Information of Lycopene and Other Health Food Ingredients. The deadline for collection is July 15, 2022.
Lycopene
Lycopene widely exists in tomato, tomato products and fruits such as watermelon and grapefruit. It is the main pigment in ripe tomatoes and one of the common carotenoids. In 1989, MASCIO found that lycopene had the highest singlet oxygen quenching activity in all carotenoids. Subsequently, researches on the function of lycopene became a hot spot, which include absorption and metabolism of lycopene, the function of lycopene in reducing risks of various tumors such as prostate cancer and cardiovascular diseases, and extraction and determination method of lycopene. At present, lycopene is not only widely used as a natural pigment, but also more and more used in functional foods, medicines and cosmetics.
Phytosterol
Phytosterol, which belongs to plant steroid, is a functional component existing in free state or bound with fatty acids and sugar, and widely exists in the cell membrane of various plants such as vegetables and fruits. Phytosterol is an active component in plants and has a lot of benefits to human health. Studies have found that phytosterol has the effects of lowering blood cholesterol, preventing and treating prostate hypertrophy, inhibiting tumors, inhibiting breast hyperplasia and regulating immunity.
Inulin
Inulin is a reserved polysaccharide in plants, which mainly comes from plants. There have been more than 36,000 species found, including 11 families of the dicotyledons such as Compositae, Campanulaceae and Gentianaceae, and Liliaceae and Gramineae of the monocotyledons. Inulin is another form of energy storage in addition to starch in plants. It is an ideal functional food ingredient and also a good raw material for producing fructooligosaccharide, polyfructose, high fructose syrup, crystalline fructose and other products.
