In China, "three new food" refers to novel food, new varieties of food additives and new varieties of food related products. The National Health Commission is responsible for the acceptance and approval of "three new food".

According to the statistics of Antion, a total of 14 novel foods was accepted and 3 drafts of novel food (see the table below for details) were issued in 2022, providing a reference for the innovation of the food industry and helping the food industry develop food that is more in line with the public demand. In addition, the drafts of "three new food" in 2022 also include 16 new varieties of food additives such as aminopeptidase and xylanase, 17 new varieties of food nutritional fortification substances such as L-alanine and L-threonine, and 12 new varieties of food related products such as cyclohexane, 1,1'-methylenebis[4-isocyanato-, homopolymer, cyclohexylamine-terminated.

According to the statistics of Antion, a total of 5 novel foods, 15 new varieties of food additives, 1 new variety of food nutritional fortification substance and 25 new varieties of food related products were announced and approved (only newly added items were counted, excluding the items with the scope of use expanded) in 2022. 4 novel foods were newly added in the termination review catalogue of novel food 2022.
