Recently, Chaoyang Customs, a subsidiary of Beijing Customs, seized a case of unqualified milk powder imported by false labeling. It involved 2 batches of 1200 boxes of 7200 cans, with a total value of 128,916 US dollars, which is the largest amount of imported unqualified food and cosmetic seized by Beijing port since 2018.

After investigation, the ingredient list and nutrition information of the external labeling of this batch of goods have changed a lot compared with the internal labeling. According to the internal labeling, the ingredients and nutrition information of the product neither meet the national food safety standards for milk powder nor that for solid beverages. The content of the “affixing” external labeling conforms to the national food safety standard for solid beverages. Appraised by the relevant technical department on June 24, the results showed that the nutrient content of the milk powder was basically consistent with the content marked on the internal labeling. It was finally judged that this batch of milk powder did not meet the national food safety standards for milk powder, nor did it meet that of solid beverages.

Through a further investigation, this batch of milk powder was declared to import from Singapore in two batches on May 29 and June 1 of this year. The trade company from Beijing tried to import the unqualified milk powder through "affixing labeling" into Chinese market by false clearance. Once this batch of milk powder enter into China, it will bring a great risk for consumers' health. Chaoyang Customs immediately sealed the batch of goods for disposal. At present, the case is under a further investigation and the illegal enterprises will face severe punishment by law.
